Transcript:

‘’One year ago, Phyo Zeya Thaw, an elected representative of the Myanmar People, was executed alongside activist Ko Jimmy and two other detainees.

These politically motivated executions speak volumes about the nature of the current military regime in Myanmar. They are yet another step by the junta towards the dismantling of the rule of law in the country and further proof that the Myanmar military have no respect for the life or dignity of the very people they are supposed to protect.

The European Union is fundamentally opposed to capital punishment, everywhere an in all circumstances.

We continue to stand up for the people of Myanmar, in defence of their human rights and democratic aspirations.

We urge the junta to release immediately and unconditionally all human rights defenders and political prisoners whom they have put behind bars, including Aung San Suu Kyi and Win Myint.’’
